    President’s Message – December 2021

Days may be getting shorter, but it seems brighter days are here. I have quite a few happy bits of news to share for this month.

First, I am thrilled to announce Laurie Lumish, CPSM, of Degenkolb Engineers has taken the helm of President Elect to fill a vacancy on our Board. Laurie is a familiar name to many of us given her long-term commitment to our Chapter. Besides serving on the Board for several years, Laurie has led CPSM study groups, served as a Mentor for the Mentoring Pathways Program, and has been a Pacific Regional Conference (PRC) speaker.

Speaking of PRC, we already have over 60 people from the Bay Area signed up to attend our 2022 conference next month. The program lineup and tracks were just released last week.

On a National level, our annual conference has been renamed from Build Business to Amplify A/E/C. Why the new name? Per HQ, it’s time for a refresh to represent the new experience and purpose. Registration is underway as of this week, and early bird registration ends on January 31. It will be held in Atlanta for 2022.

Also, SMPS HQ recently partnered with Kanarys, an equity and inclusion company, focused on identifying and eliminating inequities in the workplace. HQ will be launching an inaugural report with concrete recommendations and is asking all members to take this survey to help transform the A/E/C industries and make an impact to create equitable workplaces. The survey closes on Dec. 31.

Last, but not least – our Chapter Holiday Party is taking place next week!!!! Be sure to register by this Friday. We will be giving 10 raffle prizes (annual pass to Oakland Museum, 4 tickets to Giants Game, Yeti Rambler and gift card, wine, whiskey, gift baskets, and more).

I hope to see you next week at our Holiday Party and/or PRC next month!
