    President's Message - July 2022

We have seen a lot of movement in our industry with people switching employers, and have also heard a wide range of salaries being offered. The pandemic created some chaos and uncertainty, and this is just one example.

What is really going on here? How much are others with my title and job responsibilities really making? What is the typical salary range for those who report to me? Who is getting bonuses and how much?

With all these questions, it’s time for a new Chapter Salary Survey. A lot has changed since our last one in 2018. Yes, HQ puts together a salary survey and reports by region, but a Chapter survey is needed for a few reasons. We are a unique region and need the assurance that enough people within our region contribute to the data and answer those burning questions we all have right now.

We are inviting members and nonmembers in the Bay Area, whether they live here or this is considered their home office, to participate.

The data is being collected anonymously. After you take the survey, the “thank you” page will have a link to an optional second survey to enter your name and email address for the drawing for one of the four $50 gift cards we are giving out. The two Google Forms are kept separate to ensure salary data is collected anonymously.

The more responses we have the more telling and accurate the data will be. Please, please, please take this survey. We can benefit from this data whether we are seeking a pay increase, giving a salary range to a potential new employer, renegotiating a salary with a current employer, figuring our marketing budget for the upcoming year, or looking at becoming an independent consultant. We all benefit by getting this data. We just need to collectively contribute to the data.

We owe a HUGE thanks to SMPS Oregon as they kindly put us in touch with their member Stacey Ho, who has been overseeing their survey for quite some time. She spent an hour on the phone with us and allowed us to use their salary survey as a starting point for ours. (Sidenote: I love the growing collaboration that’s been happening among the Chapters since 2020.)

It takes 5-10 minutes to complete our Chapter’s Salary Survey. That’s it.

Need more incentive? Anyone who takes the survey will receive the salary report for FREE. The 2018 report costs $50 for members and $100 for nonmembers. This year’s report may be priced higher.

The salary survey closes Friday, August 5.

This is my last goal to achieve before my term ends on August 31 so it’s my aim to have the salary report distributed before then. I thank fellow Chapter members Amy Gong and Ava Cunningham for helping me with this endeavor.

My August message will be a roundup of this year’s Chapter happenings, including the very successful Topaz Awards held two weeks ago. Be sure to check out the photos here and get ready for 2023 – our second annual Topaz Awards.
