PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE – NOVEMBER 2022
November and December are busy times for marketers and business developers in the A/E/C industry. One event after another peppers the calendar, office closures for holidays create shortened weeks, and every client seems to need an RFQ/RFP response to set up for the new year. It’s enough to challenge our carefully thought-out work/life boundaries and add stress to the chaos of the season.
Ask yourself, what should you be doing right now to create space for your self-care, keep up with work obligations, and make the most of end-of-the-year opportunities?
You might say “Lay out a plan to get you to the end of the year,” or you might answer “Schedule a spa day.” Whatever your answer is, take two minutes right now and do it. Go on, this article will wait.
Now that you are back, add SMPS activities to your end-of-the-year routine. This year’s SMPS SFBAC Holiday Hang Out will feature the premier of our 40th Anniversary Retrospective Video. Join us in the urban, funky venue of the New Parkway Theater in Oakland for libations, snacks, and networking. In addition to our video premiere, we’ll feature raffle prizes to support student scholarships, and a mashed potato bar. The Holiday Hang Out is December 6th.
It is also time to register for SMPS PRC in San Diego. Early registration ends on November 15. Don’t miss out on the best registration rates available.

Lastly on your SMPS holiday list, make the most out of your membership by reconnecting with an SMPS associate that you haven’t spoken to in a while, make a new SMPS connection through networking or LinkedIn, or start a plan to get more involved in the chapter as a volunteer in 2023.
I look forward to seeing you at the Holiday Hang Out or out and about at any number of our industry events.
