SMPS SFBAC Sponsor Spotlight: Dome Construction
Recently I had a chance to touch base with Ali Wood, Marketing Manager at Dome Construction, and ask her a few questions about her firm, which is one of our Golden Gate sponsors.
Tell us about your firm and services.
Dome was founded on principles centered around integrity, transparency, and a strong commitment to doing it right. Our vision was clear, even back then, to be Your Contractor of Choice. Five decades later, we’ve grown to be one of the most recognizable construction companies in California specializing in Corporate Interiors, Life Science, Food Tech, Technology, Education, Healthcare, and Retail & Hospitality construction. Over the next 50 years, Dome’s passion for building environments where our clients thrive will continue to be centered around the values that have guided us here: Value our People, Seek to Understand, and Do it Right.

Tell us about some notable projects.
A few of our notable projects (for confidential clients) include…
Food Tech
This Food Tech client is one of the world’s most advanced cultivated meat facilities. The project includes renovating an existing 38,000-square-foot facility into a state-of-the-art, sustainable cell-based meat research and development facility. Renovations include process development space, laboratory space, development areas including tech development and a fabrication shop, warehouse/mechanical space, and an existing loading dock area. The production space will be segregated into two parts: upstream processing (FDA regulated), and downstream processing (USDA regulated).
Corporate Interiors
This project was located inside San Francisco’s Salesforce Tower. Floors 37-39 are connected by a breathtaking, cantilevered staircase within a 3-story atrium with fire-rated overhead coiling doors surrounding the opening. Tiered, assembly seating extends between the two bottom floors and features custom built-in bookcases and nooks. The space boasts a 360-degree view of the San Francisco skyline and includes executive offices and communal office spaces, classrooms, boardrooms, break-away spaces, a commercial grade kitchen, a barista bar and beverage tap and a R&D Lab.

Healthcare
This healthcare project consisted of a full demolition and remodel of the half-floor to include new exam rooms, offices, conference space, and Reception/Waiting areas. Dome partnered with the client and designer to complete the 12,000-quare-foot remodel on the seventh floor, expanding the footprint of the existing Transplant Center to the entire floor. This design also won a national AIA Healthcare Design Award!

Life Science
This life science project consisted of a multi-phased mixture of office and cell therapy and R&D labs spread across three floors. Phase l included a 44,000-square-foot gut and remodel of the 1st and 3rd floors which consists of new offices, conference rooms, all-hands employee break area and a structural steel curved interconnecting stair between all three floors. Phase ll includes a 22,000-square-foot gut and remodel of the 2nd floor consisting of cell therapy and R&D labs and vivarium on the 1st floor.

What differentiates your firm in terms of approach, talent, tools, and values?
Over 94% of our business comes from repeat customers. This statistic is an incredible testament and vote of confidence in our firm’s ability to deliver on our client’s expectations. We believe that the most significant contributing factor to this level of repeat business comes from values aligning with our customers and threading our core values in everything we do.
We don’t just talk about our Core Values, we LIVE them.
- Value Our People. Not just those wearing a Dome hardhat. We extend this value to everyone on the project team – from the designers we collaborate with to the trade partners we work with. Our people are our single greatest asset, and we are extremely gracious for their efforts and commitment towards providing a superior construction experience.
- Seek to Understand. Beyond budget and schedule – we strive to truly understand what success looks like from each project stakeholder’s perspective, and always keep these success factors top of mind as we execute a project.
- Do It Right. We train all our people to act with integrity, to make decisions that are best for the project, and to act as trusted advisors to our clients and project team members. We want to walk away from a project with pride, knowing that we provided value to our clients and that we did things the right way.
