Member Spotlight: Cassidy Perry
Where do you work and what is your role?
I’m a Senior Marketing Coordinator at HLB Lighting Design.
What led you to the A/E/C industry?
I’ve always loved traveling and experiencing the architecture and building traditions of different cultures. During my junior year of college, I was doing an internship in Wuxi, China, and I was blown away by the mix of historical, cultural, and modern influences that form the city’s built environment. At this point I knew I wanted to focus my marketing career on the A/E/C industry. Once I returned to the States, I applied for an internship with Fentress Architects in Denver where I paved my way from a Marketing Intern to a Senior Marketing Coordinator. My interest in light’s ability to truly transform the built environment led me to my career as a Senior Marketing Coordinator with HLB Lighting Design (HLB).
Why did you join SMPS and/or why do you continue to be a member?
I have wanted to be a member of SMPS since I started my career in the A/E/C industry to form connections, grow relationships, and become a stronger marketer and business developer. HLB takes pride in supporting professional growth and my team encouraged me to join SMPS SFBAC. I’m so thankful to work with a team that values my professional advancement – joining SMPS has been one of my best decisions!
Favorite memory of an SMPS event?
I attended the Pacific Regional Conference (PRC) this year in San Diego and I loved meeting so many SFABC members in person (I live in the Denver area so I hadn’t met many members in person yet). The conference was an amazing opportunity to network with SMPS members from all over the West Coast while learning valuable information I will carry with me throughout my career. Also, I attended my first Topaz Awards – it was truly magical! I was honored to receive the 2023 Rising Star Award, and accepted HLB’s Award of Excellence and Small Business Award for our website redesign.
Favorite job task?
I LOVE writing proposals! I enjoy the strategy, problem solving, and creativity that coalesce to shape a strong proposal.
What’s something you wish you could tell your 20-year-old self?
Take a deep breath and enjoy the little moments along the way. Time flies and you can miss so many priceless moments while you’re worrying about insignificant things that will probably not matter a year, month, or even a week from now.
Any hobbies?
I love traveling, exploring new cultures, and hiking with my husband and two dogs. I also love to cook and challenge myself to make new recipes.
Favorite local restaurant?
All the food in San Francisco is so delicious (I miss it living in Colorado)! I really enjoyed Burma Love the last time I was in the city.
Vacation spot you recommend?
I studied abroad in Lille, France, and it’s one of my favorite places. It’s a great location if you’re looking to travel around Europe – just a short train ride to Paris, Belgium, Amsterdam, London, Germany, and more.
Any upcoming vacation plans?
I’m going to Greece next year with my family. I’ve never been, and I can’t wait!
