Each month, SMPS SFBAC features one of our members from a professional and personal perspective. Keep reading to find out how Hannah Johnson got into the A/E/C industry and what she would tell her 20-year-old self!
What led you to the A/E/C industry?
My dear childhood friend, Ava Sand (Communications Director for SMPS SFBAC), originally inspired me to look into the A/E/C industry. Having a background in technology, I was curious about this sector. She spoke highly of the career growth opportunities, and the unique, tight-knit community, creativity, and collaboration. It’s been nearly four years since I’ve joined the industry, and I’m grateful to know these things to be true. This industry has profoundly altered my perspective on the transformative influence of marketing, reshaping not only how A/E/C firms are perceived but also how they adeptly navigate an ever-evolving landscape.
Why do you continue to be a member of SMPS?
As I enter my second year at SMPS, I look forward to learning new skills and expanding my professional community. As a communications committee member, it’s been a pleasure to not only contribute via my graphic design skills but to collaborate with my industry peers. Membership at SMPS serves as a fun, creative outlet, and gives me opportunities to learn from fellow marketing professionals who are also passionate about pushing the A/E/C marketing envelope.
What’s something you wish you could tell your 20-year-old self?
I would tell my 20-year-old self that life is a winding journey, not a fixed destination. Embrace change, practice gratitude, be kind to yourself, and foster authentic connections. These principles will guide you toward a more fulfilling and purposeful life.
Also, please save your low-rise jeans — they’re going to come back in style.
