    President's Message - January 2024

    Dear members,

    Happy new year, and welcome to 2024! For many of us, this is the time of year that we’re finalizing our marketing budgets, diving deep into research to understand which markets offer the best opportunities, scoping out strategic initiatives, and planning all the conferences and events we need to cover in the year ahead. If, like me, you’re feeling some trepidation about how we’re going to get all these things done, fear not! You have SMPS as your ally.

    Starting with conferences, we are excited to offer our members the opportunity to win a coveted ticket to the sold out 2024 Pacific Regional Conference taking place in Portland, Oregon, March 13-15.  PRC offers one of the premier learning, development, and networking opportunities for SMPS members in our region. Complete the stipend application form by January 22 to get your chance to join us in Portland.

    Closer to home, we have many upcoming events that offer opportunities to connect with other members and grow your network. Our regional happy hour series continues in 2024 with events in San Francisco (January 25) and Santa Rosa (February 22). Looking for longer-term connections? Our popular small group programs—Business Leaders Forum and Mentoring Pathways—are still open for registration through the end of this month. These dynamic, year-long programs provide forums for members seeking to share market insights and best practices or take the next step in their career and professional development.

    Educational programming is a key component of the value we provide to members, and I am excited that we’ll soon be able to share a preview of some of the exciting and forward-thinking workshops our Programs Committee is working to bring to you in 2024. How will AI transform the ways we market and build authentic relationships? How can marketers navigate the complex world of sustainability ratings and reporting frameworks? We’re sourcing diverse perspectives on these and other critical questions to equip members to lead within their firms and markets. 

    Of course, all of this is only possible because of the efforts of our dedicated and talented volunteers. As you’re thinking about personal goals for 2024, I encourage you to consider volunteering on a chapter committee. It is through volunteering that members build some of the most impactful, authentic, and durable relationships, all while collaborating to build our shared future.
