Member Spotlight: Jason Alandy
Each month we try to feature a Chapter member, asking them about SMPS and more. Find out below how Jason got into the A/E/C industry and his favorite TV show, restaurant, Sonoma County hangout, and much more!
What led you to the A/E/C industry?
I was working in Market Research for a Dental Marketing firm, but my desire for a more creative role led me to explore new opportunities. When I noticed a local engineering firm seeking a Marketing Coordinator, I recognized that it might be a good fit. The job description emphasized strong computer skills and desktop publishing experience—both of which aligned with my background and interests. This shift allowed me to combine my analytical abilities with creativity, making the A/E/C industry an exciting path for me.
Why did you join SMPS?
I was about a year into my first A/E/C job when I joined SMPS. I wanted to learn more about the industry and best practices for those working in marketing. I was also a lone marketing coordinator at my firm, so it was great to meet others and hear about their experience working in the industry. Despite some breaks in being a member, I’ve managed to accumulate more than ten years of SMPS membership.
What is your favorite memory of an SMPS event?
My favorite memory from an SMPS event is the SMPS Pacific Regional Conference in Anchorage (2017). The entire experience was truly remarkable. Anchorage provided a captivating backdrop for the conference, and I found it nice to engage with fellow SMPS members. It was also great to have the opportunity to spend time with the many SMPS SF members in attendance.
