Member Spotlight: Diana Banh

What led you to the A/E/C industry?
Fresh out of college, a job posting and an in-person interview later, I quickly became drawn to the design firm’s open office layout and lack of gray cubicle partitions. The atmosphere was exciting being near the Giants ballpark and South Park (plus even having a grand piano in the office), and, most importantly, I worked with wonderful colleagues – many that I still am in touch with today – that were willing to teach and inspire me about the AEC industry.
Why did you join SMPS and/or why do you continue to be a member?
My marketing director at the time brought me to my first SMPS SF event and said it’s a good organization for me to join. After that event, she suggested I attend the SMPS national conference in LA. Although I was nervous at first because I did not know anyone from SMPS yet when I went to the LA conference by myself, I met many friendly marketers from all around the country. I like that SMPS members are generally warm and welcoming, and I have made many friends through this organization. They also have a wealth of knowledge and are willing to share; I’m grateful for the CPSM study group for helping me get my CPSM.
Favorite memory of an SMPS event?
I have a hard time choosing one favorite memory because the PRC conferences that I’ve attended were all favorites, from the networking to the educational programs. I have fond memories of the beach bonfire at Huntington Beach, winter in Anchorage, and the San Diego port pedicab ride – all with other PRC attendees.
Any hobbies?
I like to travel, visit national parks (been to 40 so far), see flower fields, leaf peep, and try new places to eat.
Favorite local spot?
Pescadero, particularly Harley Farms
Vacation spot you recommend?
Korea, Japan, many countries in Europe, and many cities in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Pack for the weather, learn to at least say hello/please/thank you in the local language, and go with an open mind.
Any upcoming vacation plans?
I’d like to go to Thailand.
