What led you to the A/E/C industry?
I didn’t initially set out to be in the A/E/C industry, but I’m so glad I found my way here. I love being a part of creating and shaping the built environment. The tangible impact on communities is incredibly rewarding, and seeing projects that DAHLIN works on come to life is fulfilling. Additionally, the diversity of projects my firm works on keeps things interesting and engaging.
Why did you join SMPS?
I joined SMPS because it provides an incredible network of professionals in the A/E/C industry and offers invaluable opportunities for learning and growth. The supportive community has been a constant source of inspiration. I continue to be a member because of the meaningful connections I've made with peers who share a passion for excellence in our field.
What is your favorite memory of an SMPS event?
One of my favorite memories is from the most recent Topaz Award show. It was such a joy to celebrate everyone's hard work, and DAHLIN was honored with two awards. The event was a fantastic blend of recognition, camaraderie, and celebration.
What is your favorite job task?
I love the variety of tasks I get to work on. There’s no such thing as a typical day in marketing. It's exciting to be involved in proposals, business development, event planning, award submissions, and more. This diversity keeps the job dynamic and engaging, and I enjoy the opportunity to contribute to different aspects of our projects.
What’s something you wish you could tell your 20-year-old self?
Believe in yourself and don't be afraid to take risks. Every experience, even the challenging ones, will shape you and contribute to your growth. Stay curious, keep learning, and trust that you'll find your path. Also, remember to take time for self-care and enjoy the journey.
Do you have any hobbies?
I love skiing in Tahoe! Originally from Illinois, I find the mountains here absolutely incredible.
Do you have a favorite book?
The Road by Cormac McCarthy. In fact, I love anything by McCarthy. His writing style is captivating and profound, particularly his vivid descriptions of the American West. His writing is what first drew me to want to move out west.
Do you have a favorite local spot?
Any of the East Bay Regional Parks. There are so many hidden gems in the East Bay, offering fantastic hiking spots that are also very dog friendly.
What do you like to do most in your free time?
I love hiking with my golden retriever, Reggie, tackling home improvement projects, and immersing myself in a good book.
