Each month we try to feature a Chapter member, asking them about SMPS and more. Find out below how Isabel got into the A/E/C industry and her favorite movie, restaurant, local spot, vacation spot, and much more!
What led you to the A/E/C industry?
While at Tulane University, I sought a marketing position that combined business operations and creative problem-solving. I stumbled upon and accepted a San Francisco-based internship in the A/E/C industry, and I was hooked by the fast-paced proposal world, the wonderful people, and the variety of impactful projects... and I love spreadsheets.
Why did you join SMPS?
I joined SMPS to connect with fellow marketers navigating the A/E/C industry. I am part of the Communications Committee and the Emerging Leaders Forum, both of which are fantastic ways to stay in the loop, learn from others, and build meaningful relationships in the industry.
What’s something you wish you could tell your 20-year-old self?
I’d tell my 20-year-old self not to stress so much about having everything figured out. It’s not about having a set path; it’s about staying flexible and finding joy as you go.
Do you have a favorite movie?
The Silence of the Lambs. Yep, I’m one of those people who constantly listens to true crime podcasts.
Do you have a favorite local restaurant?
La Mar Cocina Peruana for fresh ceviche and a pisco sour.
Do you have a favorite local spot?
On the weekends, Cobbs Comedy Club or Cheaper Than Therapy Comedy Club for some laughs.
Do you have a vacation spot you recommend?
New Orleans is one of my favorite cities! The food, culture, and live music are uniquely NOLA. I find any excuse to go!
Do you have a secret skill?
Oh, absolutely. Creating in-depth vacation itineraries for my friends. At my core, I am a proud planner.
What do you like to do most in your free time?
Finding new coffee shops, reading, mountain biking, putzing around San Francisco, and spending time with friends and family.
