Member Spotlight: Beata Bukai
What led you to the A/E/C industry?
My certification in HR Management opened the door to the A/E/C industry. During the program, I met a recruiter who connected me with a role at Integral Group. That opportunity launched my career, and I quickly discovered how much I enjoy the fast-paced, collaborative nature of this field.
Why did you join SMPS and/or why do you continue to be a member?
I joined SMPS to learn and grow. I have a bachelor’s degree in Business and Marketing, but much of what I do in my day-to-day role wasn’t covered in school. In 2015, I stepped into my first full-time marketing position in the A/E/C industry on Justin Nagy’s team at Enovity. At the time, Justin chaired the Communications Committee, and just by overhearing committee and board meetings I started picking things up. I joined SMPS to gain hands-on knowledge through programs and to build my network—and I’m still a member today for the same reasons.
Do you have a favorite job task?
Event management is one of my favorite parts of the job—I love watching people connect over shared interests and experiences, and seeing relationships form in real time. I also really enjoy bringing ideas to life, whether it's through a thoughtfully planned event or a strategic pursuit. Another favorite is coaching junior team members as they prepare for interviews or presentations. My favorite moment is when they start to see themselves the way I see them—as the most valuable member of the team, the one who will be in the trenches with the client every day. I also enjoy leading strategy sessions for proposals and interviews—digging into win themes, refining the message, and watching the team come together with clarity and confidence is incredibly rewarding.
Do you have a least favorite job task?
Tracking down missing information and formatting documents at the eleventh hour definitely isn’t my favorite. And I’ll be honest—I hate having to print proposals.
Do you work from home, in the office, or a hybrid?
I work in a hybrid model, which gives me the flexibility to focus at home and the energy of collaboration when I’m in the office.
Do you have any hobbies?
Yes—traveling and self-care. Between working full-time, raising two kids, being active in their school’s parent association, and serving on the SMPS board, I make it a priority to carve out time for both trips and myself. Whether it’s a weekend getaway, a family trip, visiting spas for massages and facials, or spending time socializing with friends, I value these moments to recharge and enjoy life.
Do you have a favorite TV show?
I’m currently loving Hacks. I don’t have just one favorite, but a few that stand out—Friends, Grey’s Anatomy, Grace and Frankie, and Parenthood are some of my all-time favorites. I’m drawn to character-driven comedies and dramas that explore relationships and personal growth in a meaningful (and often humorous) way.
Do you have a favorite local restaurant?
Amami Sushi Bistro
Is there any vacation spot you recommend?
Yountville for staying in California and Tel Aviv—if your passport is updated.
Do you have a secret skill?
I have a natural ability to read the room and bring the right energy to any situation. Whether I’m leading a proposal kickoff, calming someone’s nerves before an interview, or hosting a gathering, I know how to make people feel comfortable, seen, and supported. It’s a quiet skill, but one that’s made a big difference in both my work and personal life.
What do you like to do most in your free time?
In my free time, I gravitate toward anything that brings connection, joy, and good conversation. I recharge by being around people—whether that’s hosting dinner, meeting friends for a night out, or simply hanging at home with my family. I love discovering new spots to eat, supporting local markets, and planning little adventures, even if it’s just a fun weekend outing. Going to live shows and stand-up comedy is another favorite. But honestly, my favorite moments are the simple ones: good food, good company, and a lot of laughter.
