    Sponsor Spotlight: Altura

Each month, SMPS San Francisco Bay Area Chapter (SFBAC) features one of our sponsors. This month, we’re excited to be shining the spotlight on one of our Golden Gate sponsors, Altura.

    About Altura
Altura is a mission-driven firm dedicated to improving the energy, environmental, and financial performance of our clients through a data-driven, people-centric approach. Altura helps organizations transform high-level energy and climate goals into action, real projects and verified performance. Altura delivers building performance results with an innovative mix of services, including data analytics, energy efficiency engineering, building automation system integration, commissioning and program management.

    Years in Business
    Altura was founded in 2013.

    Notable Projects

    University of California, Irvine
Since 2016, Altura has partnered with the University of California, Irvine (UCI) to modernize how the campus manages and analyzes building performance across its diverse portfolio of research labs, classrooms, housing, and administrative facilities. Working closely with UCI’s facilities and IT teams, Altura helped transition the campus away from fragmented proprietary building automation systems to an open, integrated platform that connects building automation, laboratory controls, indoor air quality, lighting, and energy metering systems. The team developed new campus standards, specifications, and data frameworks to enable consistent system integration and long-term scalability across multiple vendors. Today, this architecture supports a powerful campus-wide analytics environment that continuously collects and analyzes nearly 2,000 data points every 5–15 minutes—over 500 million data points per month—giving UCI unprecedented visibility into building operations. By improving system connectivity, network reliability, and data access, Altura has helped the university unlock meaningful operational insights and energy savings, including thermal energy reductions of 30–50% and electricity savings of 5–15% across multiple projects. The collaboration continues as Altura works with UCI to expand this open architecture across more than 100 buildings and further advance data-driven campus performance.

UCI: Long-term sustainability and energy goals defined and achieved

    Fort Bliss Hospital
Altura demonstrated the power of analytics-driven commissioning processes on this $1.48B healthcare campus project. Altura used the SkySpark analytics platform to give the entire project team visibility and transparency to the progression of HVAC systems during construction. Altura’s machine-learning powered analytics platform enable fast connection to MEP systems and 100% testing of equipment. This Automated Functional Testing capability enabled the project to complete field testing in three months, which would have otherwise taken 6 to 10 months using conventional commissioning practices.

    Sharp HealthCare
Sharp is  the first health system in the San Diego region to choose 100% renewable energy for its eligible accounts.

Together with the Sharp sustainability team, Altura developed Energy and Sustainability Master Plans for their facilities  in support of their organization-wide goals. The master plans include data-driven, actionable roadmaps to achieve carbon reduction goals across its network of healthcare facilities, while reducing operating costs by a cumulative $47.8M over six years. Altura is also helping Sharp implement advanced energy technologies including fuel cells, renewable energy, and battery storage in pursuit of achieving zero net energy by 2030.

What differentiates Altura in terms of approach, talent, tools, and values?
Clients can expect a unique combination of expert advisory consulting and project-level implementation when working with Altura. As new buildings increasingly resemble enormous computers, the technology complexity and construction risk increases rapidly. Altura works side-by-side with your team to cut through the complexity, define the roadmap, plan the work, commission the implementation, and prove the results. In existing buildings, Altura understands that clients want cost savings, easy access to operating data to drive performance, and solutions that work with a shrinking labor force.

As a multidisciplinary firm, Altura goes beyond traditional consulting, using a people-centric approach designed to make immediate and lasting performance improvements throughout the entire lifecycle of the building continuum. What do we mean by a “people-centric” approach? Technology, validated processes, and technical expertise can only take any of us so far; it’s our unrelenting belief in our people – whom we lovingly refer to as “Alturians” – working alongside our valued clients every day in our quest to redefine building performance. Removing confusion, reducing common project delays, and altogether eliminating other myriad pain points we are all too familiar with in working on the built environment are the cornerstones of building powerful relationships with our clients that we strive to deliver every day.
